Solo Exhibition: Silhouette
Marcel Rozek

Dates: August 2 - 30, 2025
Reception: August 2 | 6-8 PM

Glass Rice is proud to present Silhouette, a new series of paintings by Marcel Rozek in his sophomore solo exhibition with the gallery.

In Silhouette, Rozek deepens his exploration of color and rigidity through an evocative synthesis of poured stain and hard-edge painting. This new body of work focuses on the visual and conceptual tension between gestural fluidity and precision - oscillating between control and spontaneity.

Poured oil paint absorbed directly into raw canvas generates atmospheric fields of color that bleed and settle with a sense of organic inevitability. These chromatic stains, reminiscent of Color Field painting, are disrupted and framed by crisp, deliberate white brushed forms that carve stark silhouettes through the haze of pigments. What emerges is a dynamic interplay between softness and structure: painterly washes meet assertive forms in compositions that feel both instinctive and meticulous.

In bridging these visual languages, Rozek not only juxtaposes material techniques - he sets the stage for a quiet inquiry into how opposites converge, coexist, and ultimately define one another. In Silhouette, Rozek refines his visual lexicon through contrast, offering viewers a nuanced meditation on materiality, process, and the hum of feeling within abstraction.
