Solo Exhibition: Reset
Thai Mainhard

Dates: March 28 - April 25, 2026
Reception: March 28 | 6-8 PM

Glass Rice is proud to present Reset, Thai Mainhard’s sophomore solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring a new body of abstract paintings that marks a return to her most instinctive and process-driven approach.

Working without a predetermined composition, Mainhard allows each painting to unfold organically - one gesture leading to the next in a continuous, intuitive exchange. She builds her canvas surfaces through layered applications of oil stick, pastel, acrylic, and spray paint, at times leaving areas of raw canvas exposed. Each mark is guided by feeling, serving as a way to translate an internal, almost subconscious impulse into form - bridging thought and emotion, and creating a direct, embodied connection between artist and surface.

This intuitive, faith-driven approach underpins the work’s sense of immediacy. Rather than seeking control or resolution from the outset, Mainhard leans into uncertainty, trusting that the process itself will carry meaning. The resulting paintings hold a quiet tension between chaos and clarity, where moments of disruption give way to passages of calm.

Botanical imagery, central to Mainhard’s most recent series of work, takes a quieter role in this exhibition. Earlier paintings explored lush patterns, vibrant color, and dense compositions drawn from the natural world and inspired by her upbringing in a tropical environment. In Reset, these elements recede, allowing abstraction itself to come forward. This shift brings a renewed clarity to her practice, while leaving space for these influences to re-emerge over time.

With Reset, Mainhard embraces a more open and responsive way of working, where intuition leads and the painting takes on a life of its own. Layers are built up and pulled back, with earlier decisions left visible, creating surfaces that feel both spontaneous and deeply considered. The result is a body of work that is at once grounded and expansive - rewarding sustained looking, inviting contemplation, and capable of anchoring a space with subtle, enduring energy.
