Solo Exhibition: Phosphene Reverie
LUPA

Dates: May 24 - June 28, 2025
Reception: May 24 | 6-8 PM

Glass Rice is proud to present Phosphene Reverie, LUPA’s debut solo exhibition on the Western Hemisphere and inaugural solo exhibition with the gallery. Drawing inspiration from phosphenes - the fleeting visual impressions that appear behind closed eyes - LUPA delves into the elusive terrain of inner vision, sensation, and memory in a compelling suite of surreal paintings.

Rather than adhering to traditional representation, Phosphene Reverie embraces ambiguity and atmosphere. LUPA’s figures drift between presence and absence, their boundaries soft, porous, and often indistinct. Suspended within elemental fields - water, vapor, or folds of fabric - they evoke not a fixed identity, but a state of becoming. Through softened contours, iridescent golds, and ethereal palettes, the artist renders the psyche as a mutable space - one in constant motion, flicker, and flux.

These works do not depict memory; they embody its elusive rhythm - fragmented, circular, and nonlinear. LUPA invites viewers into a sensorial experience that feels more like breath or pulse than narrative, dissolving the boundary between observer and image. Vision becomes tactile, immersive, and intimate.

Phosphene Reverie
offers a meditation on perception as an emotional and bodily event - where the image lingers not in clarity, but in afterglow. This exhibition is a reverie of thresholds, where the seen and the felt converge in delicate tension.
