Solo Exhibition: Enfold in a Greater Space
Carmen McNall
Dates: August 6 - 27, 2022
Reception: Saturday, August 6 | 4-7 PM
Glass Rice is proud to present Enfold in a Greater Space, Carmen McNall’s sophomore solo exhibition with the gallery. In this new body of work, McNall expands off of her solo exhibition from last year and dives deeper into the narratives, relationships and symbols that have defined her distinct style of artwork. She continues to reflect on the power that female friendships hold, ideas of astral projection, the relationship between objects, people and their environments, as well as the ancient potential of feminine bodies.
Throughout McNall’s work, the female form is a pillar of potency. The grand spaces filled with botanicals, citrus fruits, vessels and ornate floral patterns amplify the energy of the divine bodies depicted; acting as symbols of connection between the female figure, the body and nature. The earthen toned scenes highlighted by bursts of vivid color harken back to familiar yet nonspecific depictions of goddesses found in folklore and ancient myths. Every symbol, talisman, object, figure, and gift builds intimate universes engulfed by patterns and personal keepsakes.
In creating her own mythical realm, she guides her audience on a cross-universe journey to a greater space. This visual voyage represents her own self-exploration over the last year to a place of embrace and intuition. One that has allowed her to build a deeper understanding of what can come from trusting the body and wisdom of those that have come before.
__________
The opening reception will run from 4 - 7 pm on August 6th and is open to the general public for walk-ins. Private appointments can be made on our website to view the exhibition after the opening reception through August 27th. Masks are optional, but encouraged. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping us all safe and healthy!
