Dates: March 6 - April 4, 2020
Opening Reception: Friday, March 6 | 6-8 PM
Glass Rice is proud to present our third annual all-female group show featuring works by ten artists, four returning and six new to our program. In celebration of Women’s Month, Coup D’œil (A Glimpse) offers an intimate peek into what makes these women unique as individuals and unequivocally female.
Femininity, today, is not to be defined by archaic social standards or reproductive organs. It cannot be taken or given; nor is it bound to a singular image or body type. What makes a woman female transcends these physical limitations and takes root in our spiritual selves, emotions and the inner workings of our thoughts. The artists in this show are each influenced by their lived experiences as women in the creation of their work, presenting a spectrum of identities. Through a variety of mediums such as painting on fabric, canvas and wood, to drawings, ceramic sculptures and woodcarvings, the individuals in this show utilize art making as a vehicle to mentally and physically process, as well as to celebrate the diversity of womanhood.
Coup D’œil (A Glimpse) is a small representation of an ongoing and limitless exploration of the definition of woman/female. We have only begun to scratch this iridescent surface.
